Waterloo Bridge View

Waterloo Bridge View - Photo by newbieshots1 / 1

Waterloo Bridge offers one of the most photographically rewarding views in London, stretching east toward St Paul's Cathedral and the City skyline and west toward the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye. Standing at the midpoint of the bridge gives you the Thames running symmetrically beneath you, with both directions worth shooting. The south-facing view toward the Southbank and National Theatre works beautifully at dusk when the brutalist concrete catches warm light, while the eastward cityscape comes alive at blue hour as office towers and landmarks begin to glow. A 24-70mm lens covers most compositions well, though a longer focal length helps compress the skyline layers. The bridge has wide, unobstructed pavements on both sides, making it easy to reposition without disruption. Shoot from low against the railing to include the bridge parapet as a leading element framing the river. (London, England, United Kingdom)
