Welcome Tower is a striking 30-foot sculptural installation modeled after Coit Tower, built entirely from reclaimed wooden doors painted in vivid decorative styles representing San Francisco's historic neighborhoods. The layered textures, bold colors, and ornate painted surfaces reward close inspection as much as wide establishing shots. Shoot from a low angle looking up to emphasize the tower's height and the intricate door panels against the sky; a 24-35mm lens works well for both the full structure and tighter detail frames. Don't miss the fish-eye peepholes at the base, which make compelling macro or close-up shots of the 3D shadow boxes inside. Overcast days are ideal since direct sunlight creates harsh contrast across the textured surfaces, while golden hour adds warmth to the painted woodwork. The tower sits along the waterfront at Pier 27, easily accessible on foot, with open space around it to move and reframe freely. (San Francisco, California, United States)
