About Westkapelse Zeedijk
Westkapelse Zeedijk is an amazing shooting gem that lets you look down on all of Westkapelle. The dike is a long bank holding the North Sea off this corner of Walcheren, with a paved path along the top and village rooftops below you on the inland side. Two things are worth building the shot around. Vuurtoren 't Hoge Licht. the square red brick tower standing tall in the middle of the village, and De Noorman, the round stone windmill that also rises above the roof line. Using a longer lens lets you pair the two together as they look out over the roofs. Or you can go with a wide lens and put the basalt slope, the village and a big Zeeland sky in one frame. Evening is the time to be up her. Low sun comes in off the sea behind you and hits the brick and the mill cap straight on, and if you turn around it goes down over open water. Wind is constant, so make sure to weight your tripod or shoot handheld. The dike stretches out along the shoreline giving you lots of space to experiment with compositions and views. There is a car park at the north end of the village so the whole dike is easily accessible. Try to stay until after dark when the lights of both the tower and windmill come on.
