Yosemite Falls
Yosemite Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in North America, dropping 2,425 feet in three tiers down a sheer granite face in the heart of Yosemite Valley. Peak flow happens during spring snowmelt, typically April through June, when the falls roar with full force and mist fills the air around you. The classic composition is from the valley floor meadow along Yosemite Falls Trail, where you can frame the entire drop against the granite cliffs with open sky above. A wide angle lens works well here to capture the full height, while a telephoto lets you isolate the upper or lower falls separately. Morning light hits the falls directly and reduces harsh shadows; overcast days are also excellent for even exposure without blowout on the white water. The lower falls are a short, paved walk from the trailhead parking area, making them very accessible, though the trail gets crowded by midmorning.
