Alsterarkaden (Alster Arcade)
Alsterarkaden is a row of elegant white arcades running along the Alsterfleet canal in the heart of Hamburg. Designed by architect Alexis de Chateauneuf after the great fire of 1842, the buildings were inspired by Venetian architecture and form a continuous row of white arches lining the water. Today, the arcades house shops, cafés, and walkways making them an active part of the historic city centre. The repeating arches create strong lines and symmetry, while the canal adds reflections and depth alongside the walkway. Nearby bridges provide elevated views looking back toward the arcade, especially in the evening when lights reflect on the water. Its central location makes it an easy stop while exploring Hamburg’s old city area. (Hamburg, Germany)
