Angel's Landing is one of the most dramatic viewpoints in Zion National Park, a sheer sandstone monolith rising nearly 1,500 feet above the Virgin River with sweeping views of Zion Canyon in every direction. From the summit, you can shoot straight down into the canyon floor where the river carves its path, or turn to capture the layered red and white canyon walls stretching toward the horizon. A wide angle lens works well for the expansive canyon panoramas, while a longer focal length lets you isolate the serpentine road below or compress distant mesa formations. Early morning is ideal, with soft golden light raking across the canyon walls before midday shadows flatten the texture. The final half mile of trail requires chain-assisted scrambling, so keep your camera secured and bring a small daypack to keep your hands free. A permit is now required for the chain section.
