Zion Canyon delivers some of the most dramatic sandstone scenery in North America, with towering red and cream walls rising hundreds of meters above the Virgin River. The canyon floor gives you natural leading lines along the river, especially at the Narrows where the walls close in and reflections form in shallow water; a wide-angle lens works well here to emphasize the scale of the surrounding cliffs. For iconic compositions, shoot from Canyon Junction Bridge at sunrise when warm light catches the West Temple and Watchman formations directly. Midday light tends to be harsh and creates deep shadows in the canyon, so aim for the golden hours when the angled sun paints the sandstone in rich orange tones. Wear water shoes if you plan to wade into the Narrows, and arrive early during peak season as the shuttle is required for most destinations inside the canyon. (Springdale, Utah, United States)
