About Aqualuna at Bayside

Aqualuna at Bayside stands right at the water's edge on Toronto's east waterfront, and the whole front of it ripples. It has a unique design featuring two peaks with a dip between them, with every floor wrapped in balconies that curve and scallop their way across the front. Nothing on it runs straight. From the promenade below it appears to be a stack of curves rather than a stack of floors. Using a long lens from back along the promenade lets you compress the curves into one repeating pattern that fills the frame. Low side light turns every scallop into its own shadow. The building looks south over Lake Ontario so it takes sun through the day, but early or late in the day are the best picks. Walking west along the waterfront lets the two peaks separate out, and gives you the full silhouette against the lake. Aim to come back during blue hour when the suites light up and the curves catch the glow from inside. The Water's Edge Promenade runs along the front and is public, so everything here comes from the walkway. It's free and open at any hour, and the waterfront trail carries on in both directions if you want more of the lake. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
