Heavenly Waters
This massive whale mural wraps around the side of the Redpath Sugar Factory at the foot of Jarvis Street and Queen's Quay, making it one of the most striking pieces of public art along Toronto's waterfront. The scale of the work is what makes it so compelling photographically, and you will want to step back far enough to capture the full composition, which means crossing to the south side of Queen's Quay or using a wide angle lens to fit everything in. Look for angles that include the waterfront context or passing cyclists and pedestrians to give the mural a sense of scale. Overcast days work particularly well here since the even light reduces harsh shadows and keeps the blue tones in the whales vivid. Morning on a weekday gives you the cleanest shots with fewer people and vehicles in the frame. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
