Baring Falls is a compact but striking waterfall tucked along Baring Creek in Glacier National Park, where the creek drops over a wide, layered rock face into a shallow turquoise pool. The falls are not especially tall, but the vivid blue-green color of the water, the mossy stone walls, and the surrounding old-growth forest make it a rewarding subject. Shoot from the rocky shoreline at the base of the falls for a low, immersive perspective, or step back to include the forested canyon walls framing the scene. A wide-angle lens works well for capturing the full environment, while a telephoto lets you isolate the water detail on the rock face. Midday light can be harsh, so overcast days are ideal for even, saturated color in the pool. The falls are a short, easy walk from the St. Mary Lake area trailhead, making them accessible for most photographers. (Glacier National Park, Montana, United States)
