Bridge between Continents

This short footbridge spans a dramatic fissure in the Reykjanes Peninsula where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates are slowly pulling apart, making it one of the few places on Earth where you can stand at a visible continental rift. The raw, lava-strewn landscape surrounding the bridge is just as compelling as the structure itself, giving you a strong sense of geological scale. Shoot from ground level to emphasize the depth and width of the rift below, and use the bridge as a leading line stretching toward the horizon. A wide-angle lens works well here, capturing both the bridge and the rugged volcanic terrain on either side. Overcast days soften the harsh contrasts on the dark lava rock, though golden hour adds warmth to the otherwise stark scene. The site is flat, easy to reach by car, and rarely crowded outside summer midday hours. (Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland)
