This rugged basalt headland on the Reykjanes Peninsula puts you right at the edge of the North Atlantic, where violent surf crashes against dark lava cliffs and wave-worn boulders stretch along the shoreline. The drama here comes from the raw geology, the churning water, and the sense of exposure, so look for compositions that use the rounded storm-tossed boulders as a foreground element with the cliffs and breaking waves behind. A wide angle lens works well for capturing the scale of the scene, while a longer focal length lets you compress the surf against the rock faces. Overcast days are excellent here since flat light brings out the deep blacks and greens of the basalt without harsh shadows. Be cautious near the water, as waves can surge unexpectedly onto the boulder field. The area is accessible via a short walk from the nearby Reykjanesviti lighthouse parking area.
