This iconic cylindrical telecommunications tower rises 177 metres above the Fitzrovia rooftops and offers a striking subject for urban architecture photography. You cannot enter the tower, so your shots will be from street level and surrounding areas. Foley Street and Howland Street to the north give you clean low-angle views looking up along the tower's length, while the streets of Fitzrovia allow you to frame it compressed behind Georgian terraces and rooftops using a telephoto lens. For a wider environmental shot, nearby Regent's Park or Primrose Hill puts the tower in the broader London skyline context. Overcast days reduce harsh shadows on the curved facade and bring out the texture of the cylindrical drum and antenna rigging. A 70-200mm lens is useful for isolating the upper sections and compressing it against surrounding architecture, while a wide angle works well for dramatic upward perspectives from directly below.
