The Chicago River cuts through the heart of the city, creating a natural corridor lined with some of the most impressive architectural facades in the world. The stretch along West Wacker Drive is particularly rewarding, where glass towers, limestone classics, and Art Deco landmarks stack up along both banks. Shoot from the river-level Riverwalk for low, dramatic angles that emphasize the canyon-like scale of the buildings, or head up to street-level bridges for a wider perspective that captures the water as a strong leading line running into the skyline. The Michigan Avenue Bridge area is one of the most compositionally rich spots, with layered bridges and historic towers framing the scene. Blue hour and overcast days work exceptionally well here, softening harsh shadows between buildings and letting architectural details stand out. A wide-angle lens in the 16 to 24mm range handles the scale nicely. (Chicago, Illinois, United States)
