Chicago Riverwalk
The Chicago Riverwalk stretches along the south bank of the Chicago River through the heart of the city, giving you ground-level access to one of the most architecturally dense urban canyons in the world. Walking the length of it, you can frame the river as a leading line pulling toward the Irv Kupcinet Bridge, with Trump Tower and surrounding skyscrapers rising dramatically on either side. Wide-angle lenses work especially well here to capture the full scale of the canyon effect, while a longer focal length lets you compress the bridges and towers into tighter compositions. Early morning is ideal, when the light is soft, reflections on the water are clean, and foot traffic is minimal. The Riverwalk is fully paved and accessible at street level, reached by stairs or ramps from Michigan Avenue and other cross streets. Shoot from low near the water's edge to maximize the reflection and emphasize the height of the buildings above. (Chicago, Illinois, United States)
