Dom Luís I Bridge
Dom Luís I Bridge is a large metal arch bridge that spans the Douro River, connecting the city with Vila Nova de Gaia. Built in the late 19th century, it has two levels, with the upper deck carrying the metro and pedestrians, and the lower deck used for cars and foot traffic. The structure itself has a strong curved shape that stands out from almost anywhere along the river. From many angles, you can frame the bridge with the historic centre of Porto rising up behind it, which gives you a really layered scene to work with. It is a great subject whether you are shooting from the riverbanks, nearby viewpoints, or directly on the bridge itself. Evening is a strong time to be here, when the lights come on and reflections start to show in the water. (Porto, Portugal)
