Torre dos Clérigos is an imposing baroque bell tower standing 76 m and attached to the Igreja dos Clérigos. It is the tallest campanile in Portugal and has become one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. You can climb the narrow staircase inside to reach the top, where an observation level gives you wide views over Porto’s rooftops and the Douro River. The climb is a bit tight and steep, but once you are at the top the view is worth the effort. For photography, the top is great for wide shots and layering the city into the distance, while the exterior of the tower also works well from street level when framed between nearby buildings. Softer light tends to work best for the views, especially early or later in the day. (Porto, Portugal)
