Edna’s Knoll

From a small roadside pullout along Highway 16, a short uphill scramble brings you to this rocky knoll with a sweeping panoramic view that is hard to match in Jasper. Below you, Talbot Lake and Athabasca Lake sit on either side of the highway, and the road itself becomes a natural leading line curving through the frame toward a dramatic mountain backdrop. Shoot wide to capture the full spread of lakes, peaks, and sky, or compress the scene with a telephoto to isolate the highway ribbon against the water. Golden hour in the morning or evening gives the lakes a warm reflective glow and adds depth to the mountains behind. Keep an eye out for bighorn sheep on the rocky slopes, which can add strong foreground interest. The hike is short but the terrain is uneven, so wear solid footwear and watch your footing near the exposed edge. (Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada)
