Patricia Lake

Patricia Lake is a quiet, reflective mountain lake sitting just outside the town of Jasper, surrounded by dense boreal forest with Pyramid Mountain rising dramatically behind the treeline to the north. The classic composition here puts you on the southern shoreline, shooting across the still water toward the forest and mountain backdrop, where calm mornings reward you with mirror-like reflections that double the scene beautifully. Get low to the water's edge to maximize the reflection and include foreground detail like rocks or reeds for depth. A wide angle lens in the 16 to 24mm range works well to capture both the sky and the full sweep of the landscape. Early morning is the best time to visit, before wind picks up and breaks the surface; golden hour light catches the slopes of Pyramid Mountain and adds warm tones to the scene. The access road is short and easy to walk. (Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada)
