Talbot Lake
Talbot Lake sits just off the Yellowhead Highway in Jasper National Park, offering one of the most accessible and reliable reflection shots in the Canadian Rockies. The lake's calm surface frequently mirrors the surrounding peaks, making symmetrical compositions a natural starting point; position yourself low at the water's edge to maximize the reflection and include the mountain ridgeline above. The short trail at the south end leads to an elevated viewpoint where you can frame Talbot Lake, Cinquefoil Mountain, and the Athabasca River together in a single wide composition. Early morning is the best time to visit, when wind is minimal and the light is soft and golden. A wide angle lens works well for the full panoramic scene, though a short telephoto can isolate the reflected peaks nicely. Parking is available directly off the highway, making this an easy stop with no serious hiking required. (Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada)
