Fornebu Boat House

This iconic red boat house sits at the end of a long wooden pier jutting into the Oslofjord, making it one of the most striking waterfront subjects in the Oslo area. The pier itself is your best compositional tool, use it as a leading line with a wide angle lens to draw the eye straight toward the boat house, with the calm fjord water on either side. Sunrise is the prime time to visit, when soft pink and golden light catches the red timber walls and reflects off the water below. On still mornings you can get near-perfect reflections. Arrive early to have the pier to yourself, as it draws walkers and joggers once the day gets going. The spot is easy to reach from central Oslo and requires no special access; simply walk out along the pier and experiment with low angles close to the water for the most dramatic perspective.
