Fort Denison
Fort Denison is a small fortified island sitting in the middle of Sydney Harbour, offering some of the most unique perspectives on the iconic skyline available anywhere in the city. Because you are positioned mid-harbour, you get unobstructed views of the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, and the CBD all at once, which is rare from a single vantage point. The circular Martello tower adds strong foreground interest, and pairing it with the bridge in the background gives your frames a sense of depth and history. Early morning light is ideal, with soft golden tones washing over the sandstone fortifications and the city skyline behind. You can only reach the island by ferry from Circular Quay, so check the National Parks ferry schedule before you go. A wide angle lens works well for sweeping harbour compositions, while a short telephoto helps compress the tower against the skyline. (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)
