Foss á Síðu
Foss á Síðu is a graceful roadside waterfall in southern Iceland where the river Fossá spills over a broad basalt cliff in a wide, veil-like curtain, dropping around 30 meters before continuing toward the sea. What makes it especially compelling is its relationship with the wind: strong gusts blowing in from the coast can push the water upward, reversing the falls entirely, so keep an eye on weather forecasts and consider visiting on blustery days for that surreal effect. You can shoot directly from the roadside pull-off with a wide angle to capture the full cliff face and the farm buildings below, or get closer to emphasize the basalt texture and water detail. Overcast days give you soft, even light that works beautifully for waterfalls, reducing harsh shadows on the rock face. A polarizing filter helps cut glare and bring out the richness of the moss-covered stone. (Kirkjubæjarklaustur, Southern Region, Iceland)
