Lómagnúpur
Rising abruptly from the flat black sand plains of southern Iceland, Lómagnúpur is a sheer-faced cliff massif that tops out near 770 meters and creates one of the most dramatic vertical profiles in the country. The contrast between the towering rock face and the surrounding flatlands is what makes it so striking, and you can use the wide open foreground to experiment with leading lines from the Ring Road or the nearby lagoons and wetlands. A wide angle lens works well here to capture the full scale of the cliffs against the sky. Sunrise and sunset both deliver strong light that rakes across the rock face and emphasizes its texture, while clear nights point you roughly northward, making this a reliable foreground for aurora shoots. Pull well off the road before setting up, as traffic moves fast along Route 1 and shoulder space is limited in places. (Southern Region, Iceland)
