Jón Steingrímsson Memorial Chapel
Jón Steingrímsson Memorial Chapel is a small church located near Kirkjubæjarklaustur in southern Iceland. The chapel was built to honor a local pastor for his role during the 1783 Laki eruption. The chapel sits on slightly elevated ground overlooking the surrounding landscape, which includes lava fields formed by that eruption. Its simple white exterior and modest size stand out against the darker terrain, creating the perfect subject in an otherwise open setting. The area is quiet and easy to access, with space to move around and frame the chapel against the wide Icelandic scenery. Changing light and weather can quickly alter the mood, especially with low clouds or evening light adding contrast to the scene. (Kirkjubæjarklaustur, Iceland)
