Mögáfoss is a multi-tiered waterfall cascading down textured basalt canyon walls draped in vivid green moss, tucked into a narrow gorge in southern Iceland. The layered rock faces and the way water splits across different ledges give you a lot to work with compositionally. Get low near the base to emphasize the height and layers of the falls, or step back to include the full canyon walls and frame the water with the mossy rock on either side. A wide angle lens works well in the confined space, while a longer exposure will smooth the water and bring out the contrast against the dark stone. Overcast days are ideal here since soft diffused light eliminates harsh shadows in the gorge and makes the greens pop. Wear waterproof footwear as the ground near the base can be wet and slippery.
