Gimmelwald
Perched on a narrow ledge above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Gimmelwald is a car-free Alpine village that feels frozen in time, with wooden chalets, hanging flower boxes, and unobstructed views across one of Switzerland's most dramatic glacial valleys. The classic composition points your lens northeast toward the sheer Lauterbrunnen cliffs and Staubbachfall waterfall opposite, with the valley floor far below giving a strong sense of depth. A wide-to-mid zoom in the 24-70mm range works well for landscapes, while a longer focal length pulls in the distant Jungfrau massif. Morning light catches the peaks beautifully before the valley fills with haze, and golden hour in summer bathes the chalets in warm tones. The village is small, so explore the narrow paths between buildings for intimate foreground framing. Access is by cable car from Stechelberg, so plan your timing around the last gondola of the evening. (Gimmelwald, Bern, Switzerland)
