Haji Lane is a narrow, pastel-colored alley in Singapore's Kampong Glam district, lined with two and three-story shophouses painted in bright hues and decorated with street art murals that give every frame a burst of color and texture. The tight width of the lane works naturally as a leading line, drawing the eye down the street, and you can position yourself at either end for a compressed perspective using a short telephoto around 50 to 85mm. Shooting toward the middle of the day is actually workable here since the buildings shade much of the lane, keeping light soft and even, though golden hour adds warm tones to the upper facades. Early morning gives you the architecture without crowds, while late afternoon brings in the street life and cafe culture that add human scale to your shots. The lane is pedestrian-friendly and easy to walk end to end in minutes. (Singapore, Central Region, Singapore)
