Muscat Street Archway
Muscat Street Archway is a pair of ornate Omani-style granite gates in the heart of Kampong Glam, and their real value to photographers is how they frame the golden domes of Masjid Sultan directly behind them. Position yourself along the central axis of the street and use the arch as a natural frame, drawing the eye straight to the mosque. A short telephoto lens in the 50 to 85mm range works well for compressing the distance and filling the frame with both the arch and the domes together. The intricate carved stonework also rewards close-up detail shots. Early morning gives you soft, even light and far fewer people on the street, making it easier to get a clean composition. The arch is right at street level with no barriers, so you can easily adjust your position to fine-tune the framing. (Kampong Glam, Singapore)
