Hallgrímskirkja

Hallgrímskirkja is Reykjavík's towering Lutheran church, its striking concrete facade designed to echo the basalt lava columns found across Iceland's landscape. The stepped, geometric silhouette is endlessly photogenic and works beautifully from multiple distances. From the street directly in front, a wide or standard lens lets you use the long pedestrian boulevard, Skólavörðustígur, as a strong leading line drawing the eye straight to the tower. Step back further for a full-length shot that captures the entire facade without distortion. Early morning light is ideal, especially in winter when low sun rakes across the textured concrete and the crowds are thin. The tower observation deck gives you an elevated view over the city's colorful rooftops, worth bringing a wider lens for. The church is open most days and sits on a hill, making it visible and shootable from almost any direction across the city. (Reykjavík, Iceland)
