Sun Voyager
Sun Voyager is a striking steel dreamboat sculpture sitting along the Reykjavik waterfront, designed by Jón Gunnar Árnason and unveiled in 1990. The sculpture's skeletal, ribbed silhouette works beautifully as a foreground element, with Mount Esja and the open North Atlantic stretching behind it. Sunset is the prime time to visit, as the warm light reflects off the polished steel and the sky behind the mountains can turn vivid shades of orange and pink. Position yourself low and close to the sculpture to exaggerate its size against the background, or step back with a wide angle lens to include the full mountain panorama. A tripod is essential for long exposures after the sun drops, when the water smooths out and the steel catches fading color. The path along Sæbraut is flat and easily accessible year round, with plenty of room to try multiple angles. (Reykjavik, Iceland)
