Hart House
Hart House is a grand Gothic Revival building at the heart of the University of Toronto's downtown campus, offering rich architectural detail that rewards close attention. The stone facade, arched windows, and ornate ironwork give you plenty to work with, whether you are shooting tight details with a longer lens or pulling back wide to capture the full tower and courtyard. The central quadrangle is one of the best spots on campus, giving you a contained, intimate space where the surrounding stonework frames the sky nicely overhead. Overcast days are ideal here since diffused light brings out the texture in the limestone without harsh shadows, though late afternoon sun from the west adds warmth to the front facade. The building is accessible from Hart House Circle and the interior common rooms are also worth exploring for dramatic vaulted ceilings and stained glass. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
