Tucked inside the University of Toronto's downtown campus, this small but historically rich 1840s observatory offers a rare chance to photograph one of Canada's most significant scientific landmarks. The white Greek Revival building with its distinctive dome sits within a quiet courtyard setting, surrounded by older stone university buildings that add strong architectural context to your frames. Shoot from the surrounding pathways to capture the dome against the sky, or step back to include the neighboring campus buildings for a sense of place. Overcast days work particularly well here, softening shadows and bringing out the texture in the masonry. Early morning gives you quieter grounds with fewer people moving through the frame. A wide to standard lens in the 24-50mm range handles most compositions well. The site is accessible on foot from St. George Street, and the courtyard setting rewards slower, deliberate shooting rather than wide establishing shots. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
