At the top of University Avenue in downtown Toronto, the Ontario Legislative Building is the pink sandstone home of the provincial parliament. The intricate stonework makes it an amazing location for architectural photography. The exterior warms up nicely in early morning and late afternoon light, plus rounded arches, domed towers, and detailed carving create interesting compositions from almost any angle. The building sits perfectly at the end of a long straight stretch of University Avenue, so you can set up amazing leading lines from down the street. The peaceful lawns give you lots of space to experiment with capturing a full view, coming in close for the carved stonework around the main entrance and windows, or using the statues and big old trees dotting the grounds as foreground. The pink stonework really comes alive at golden hour, and the building is lit after dark if you want to stay for blue hour. Seasons also add some varitey to your shooting with the cherry blossoms in early spring, or the rich colours of fall. The grounds are an open public park, free to walk around any time. The interior can only be visited on a free guided tour, so if you want to see the grand staircase and stained glass ceilings you will have to plan ahead. There are photo rules inside that can be strict so it is worth checking when you arrive for your tour. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
