Hotel Du Lovre View
Perched at the corner of the Hotel du Louvre, this elevated vantage point gives you one of Paris's most satisfying urban compositions, a straight shot down Avenue de l'Opéra with the grand facade of the Palais Garnier anchoring the far end of the frame. The symmetry of the boulevard, flanked by uniform Haussmann-era buildings, does most of the compositional work for you; a telephoto lens in the 70-200mm range compresses the perspective beautifully and pulls the Opera House closer. Shoot from the hotel's upper floors or rooftop terrace for the best angle above street-level clutter. Blue hour and overcast mornings work especially well here, keeping harsh shadows off the facades and giving the stone buildings a clean, even tone. Early morning also means far less traffic on the avenue, which helps if you want clean lines without cars filling the foreground. (Paris, Île-de-France, France)
