The Institut de France is one of Paris's most elegant Baroque landmarks, its iconic domed silhouette and symmetrical colonnaded wings making it a favorite subject across the Seine. Your best compositions come from the opposite bank, the Quai de la Mégisserie or the Pont des Arts, where you can frame the facade with the river in the foreground and use the bridge's lines to draw the eye toward the cupola. A slightly elevated position on the bridge itself works well for compressing the scene and including boats or barge reflections. A short to mid telephoto lens, around 50 to 85mm, isolates the dome cleanly without distortion. Overcast mornings reduce harsh shadows on the pale stone and cut glare off the water, though golden hour light from the east catches the facade beautifully in the early morning. The area is busy with tourists by mid-morning, so arriving early rewards you with cleaner shots and calmer reflections. (Paris, Île-de-France, France)
