Built in the 18th century as a commodities exchange, this circular landmark now houses François Pinault's contemporary art collection and is one of the most architecturally striking interiors in Paris. The main rotunda is the shot you come for, with its soaring domed ceiling, the dramatic oculus, and the sweeping steel ring inserted by Tadao Ando that creates a tension between old and raw concrete. Position yourself at the center of the floor to capture the full symmetry looking straight up, or work the perimeter to frame the Ando ring against the painted ceiling frieze. A wide-angle lens handles the scale well, though a tilt-shift will help with distortion. Midday natural light filtering through the oculus is surprisingly good for the dome, and the interior is consistent enough to shoot any time of day. Museum admission is required.
