Hundertwasserhaus
Hundertwasserhaus is a residential apartment building designed by the eccentric Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, covered in undulating facades, mismatched windows, colorful ceramic details, and rooftop trees that spill over the edges. The irregular, almost chaotic exterior gives you endless compositional options, so work the whole facade from across the street on Kegelgasse for a wide establishing shot, then move in close to isolate individual windows or mosaic tiles with a longer focal length. Overcast days work surprisingly well here because soft, even light brings out the saturated colors without harsh shadows cutting across the texture. Early morning on weekdays keeps foot traffic low and gives you a cleaner foreground. A 24-70mm range covers most situations, and shooting from the opposite pavement puts enough distance between you and the building to capture its full height without distortion.
