Ferguson Point

Ferguson Point - Photo by fery_lim851 / 1

Ferguson Point sits on the western edge of Stanley Park, offering sweeping views across Burrard Inlet toward the North Shore mountains and the busy marine traffic heading in and out of Vancouver Harbour. The combination of passing cargo ships, sailboats, and cruise liners against a mountainous backdrop gives you strong foreground interest with dramatic depth. Position yourself along the rocky shoreline to get low and frame the water in the foreground, or step back onto the grassy bluff to use the treeline as a natural frame. A medium telephoto lens in the 70-200mm range works well for compressing the mountains and isolating vessels against the peaks. Golden hour light arrives here in the late afternoon and evening, painting the inlet and North Shore ridgeline in warm tones. The point is easily accessible by walking or cycling the Stanley Park Seawall, and the open shoreline gives you room to explore multiple compositions. (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)
