Kitsilano Beach
Kitsilano Beach stretches along English Bay with one of the most layered cityscapes in Canada behind it, combining the downtown Vancouver skyline, the snowy North Shore Mountains, and open water all in a single frame. Walk to the eastern end of the beach near the outdoor pool for the classic wide composition that stacks the city, mountains, and foreground water together. A wide angle lens in the 16 to 24mm range works well here, though a short telephoto lets you compress the mountains behind the skyline for a more dramatic effect. Sunrise brings soft, cool light hitting the downtown towers from the east, while golden hour before sunset wraps everything in warm tones. The beach is flat and fully accessible, and low tide exposes wet sand that gives you clean reflections of the skyline. Parking is available along Cornwall Avenue.
