Jimbaran Beach is a sweeping crescent of golden sand on Bali's southwest coast, best known for its open-air seafood restaurants lining the shoreline and its unobstructed views toward the horizon. The gently curving bay gives you natural leading lines to work with, and the traditional jukung fishing boats pulled up onto the sand make for compelling foreground subjects, especially at low tide when reflections appear in the wet sand. Sunset is the prime time to shoot here, as the sun drops directly into the ocean at the end of the bay, casting warm orange and pink tones across the water and silhouetting the boats beautifully. Arrive 30 to 45 minutes before sunset to scout your position along the shoreline. A wide angle lens works well for expansive beach scenes, while a short telephoto lets you compress the fishing boats against the glowing sky. The beach is easy to walk and has no entry fee.
