Kite Surfer's Beach

Kite Surfer's Beach - Photo by Pedro Cunha1 / 1

This stretch of Jumeirah Beach gets its name from the kite surfers who regularly launch and glide here, giving you a lively, action-packed foreground against the open Arabian Gulf. You can shoot the colorful kites against blue sky and water, use a long lens to isolate individual surfers mid-air, or go wide to capture the full scene with the Dubai skyline visible in the distance. Late afternoon is the sweet spot, when the light turns golden and the kites catch the warm tones, though the surfers tend to be most active when the wind picks up in the afternoon hours. Position yourself low on the wet sand to reflect the kites in the water's surface, or wade into the shallows for a cleaner horizon line. A 70-200mm lens handles the action well, while a wide angle works for environmental shots. (Dubai, United Arab Emirates)
