Sunset Beach is a sandy waterfront park on the north shore of False Creek where English Bay opens up, offering sweeping views of the water, the downtown Vancouver skyline, and the North Shore mountains. The star of the location is Bernar Venet's large steel arc sculpture, which makes a powerful foreground element when composed against the skyline or the bay behind it. Try shooting through or around the arc to frame the city or mountains, and experiment with low angles to make the sculpture feel monumental against the sky. Sunset is the prime time to visit, with warm light reflecting off the water and the city towers catching a golden glow to the east. A wide angle lens works well for dramatic compositions with the sculpture, while a short telephoto lets you compress the mountains behind the skyline. Parking is available nearby and the beach is flat and easy to walk. (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)
