Largest hat & cowboy Boots
Hat 'n' Boots puts two giant Western icons in the middle of Oxbow Park in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood, a quirky pairing that rewards photographers who lean into the absurdity. The oversized cowboy hat, which once served as a gas station canopy, and the pair of tall boots, originally used as restrooms, are painted in bold reds and yellows that pop against blue sky or overcast Pacific Northwest light. Shoot wide to capture both structures together, or get close and low on the boots to exaggerate their scale against the sky. A wide angle lens in the 16-35mm range works well for both approaches. Overcast days diffuse the light evenly and reduce harsh shadows inside the hat's brim, making them surprisingly ideal for this subject. The park is flat, open, and freely accessible, with plenty of room to move around and experiment with foreground grass or surrounding trees as framing elements.
