Moskenes Harbour

Moskenes Harbour is a small fishing village on the southern tip of the Lofoten Islands, where traditional red and yellow rorbuer cabins cluster along the waterfront with dramatic, snow-dusted peaks rising steeply behind them. The classic composition here is to shoot from the road or shoreline on the eastern side of the harbour, using the calm water as a mirror for the mountains and colourful buildings. A wide angle lens works well to capture the full sweep of peaks and village together, though a short telephoto lets you compress the layers and isolate individual cabins against the ridgeline. Blue hour and golden hour both reward patience, with soft pink light catching the mountain faces and reflecting in the still harbour water. Arrive early to avoid the few other photographers who make it this far south on the archipelago, and check wind conditions since even a light breeze will break up reflections.
