Hellesylt Rapids pour directly through the center of this small Norwegian village, where a powerful cascade tumbles under a footbridge before rushing into the Sunnylvsfjorden. The waterfall is compact but forceful, and the surrounding stone walls, old bridge architecture, and deep green water give you a lot to work with in a tight space. Position yourself on the bridge for a classic top-down shot into the churning green torrent, or drop down to water level on the rocks beside the channel for a low-angle view with the cascade filling your frame. A wide angle lens works well here given the confined setting, and a neutral density filter will let you smooth out the water for longer exposures. Overcast days are ideal since the gorge sits in shade and bright sun creates harsh contrast. The rapids are steps from the village center and completely accessible on foot.
