About Murazzi Spiaggia Libera

Murazzi Spiaggia Libera is a relaxed stretch of sand on the outer shore of the Lido looking out over the Adriatic Sea. Lines of big boulders reach out into the bay every so often, splitting the beach into a string of little sandy bays with shallow water in between. A few of these sand protecting boulder breakwaters have been turned into small concrete piers. Behind the beach the old white stone sea wall built by the Republic of Venice in the 1700s stretches along the whole shore. There is lots of space along the beach to set up and experiment with various compositions depending on your shooting style. You can set up at the water's edge and let one of the rocky breakwaters lines lead your eye out to the horizon, or walk down the beach and stack a few of them up one behind the other. Turn around and the old wall makes a nice clean backdrop for shots looking back toward land or shoot along it to use the wall as a leading line pull the eye along the beach. Since the beach looks out over open water, sunrise comes up right in front of you, so mornings are the perfect time to be here. Plus on a still day a slow shutter speed turns the water around the boulders soft and glassy. The bay is often dotted with various boats ranging from small sailboats all the way to large container ships which can be used to add a unique sense of scale to your photos. Get there before first light and you'll have lots of time to experiment as the sky warms up. (Lido di Venezia, Veneto, Italy)
