Built for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, this neoclassical landmark sits on the edge of Jackson Park with its grand colonnaded facade reflecting in the formal lagoon out front. The exterior gives you strong symmetrical compositions, and the lagoon is your best tool here, offering clean reflections of the white columns and dome when the water is calm. Position yourself low along the lagoon's edge to maximize the reflection and use a wide to standard zoom in the 24-50mm range. Overcast days work well for the exterior by softening shadows on the detailed stonework, while early morning gives you the best chance at still water and minimal foot traffic. The south and southwest sides of the building also offer solid angles with the park's mature trees framing the structure. Getting there is straightforward via the 55th Street Metra stop, just a short walk away. (Chicago, Illinois, United States)
