Nevada Fall

Nevada Fall is one of Yosemite's most dramatic waterfalls, a powerful 594-foot cascade on the Merced River framed by the massive granite face of Liberty Cap rising directly behind it. The classic composition puts the fall front and center with Liberty Cap filling the background, and you can find this angle from the viewpoint near the top of the Mist Trail. Spring and early summer bring peak flow when snowmelt pushes the volume to its most impressive, with mist heavy enough to coat your lens if you get too close, so a protective filter and lens cloth are worth carrying. A wide angle lens works well to capture both the fall and surrounding granite walls together. The John Muir Trail offers a higher, drier approach if you want a cleaner shot without the spray. Midmorning light catches the water nicely before the canyon walls cast deep shadows. (Yosemite National Park, California, United States)
