Nevada Falls View
Nevada Fall is one of Yosemite's most dramatic cascades, dropping 594 feet as the Merced River plunges over a granite ledge into a churning pool surrounded by massive boulders. The classic view from the John Muir Trail puts the full height of the fall in frame with Liberty Cap rising behind it, giving you strong vertical compositions that emphasize the scale. A wide angle lens works well here to capture the fall alongside the surrounding granite walls, while a telephoto lets you isolate the white water against the dark rock face. Shoot in the morning when light hits the mist and you have a chance at rainbows forming in the spray. The trail is well maintained but involves a significant uphill hike, so plan for two to four hours round trip from Happy Isles and wear sturdy footwear.
